The transition period for medicinal products for human use covered by the Agreement ended on 11 July 2019: 14.This Agreement reproduces the 2017 Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Chile on trade in organic products7. It should be noted that this goes beyond normal mutual recognition agreements, which only provide for the acceptance of certificates of conformity issued by foreign national regulatory bodies. The agreement also provides for rules on labelling and monitoring and reporting requirements for compliance with organic standards. Apart from the creation of a joint committee between the UNITED Kingdom and Chile to “ensure that this agreement works properly”8, the only major changes to the EU-Chile agreement have been to remove references to EU logos and websites and replace them with UK logos and websites. The Johnson government has moved away from these approaches. In its proposal for a Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU, the UK proposes an agreement on the mutual recognition of conformity assessment, “compatible” with the provisions of the EU-Canada agreement. It also proposes a separate agreement on the certification of marine equipment, “similar” to the EU`s agreement with the US. The explanatory memorandum contains information on the mutual recognition agreement, including: the MRA with Israel is a Compliant Assessment and Acceptance Agreement for Industrial Products (ACAA). This is a specific type of MRA based on the alignment of the legal system and infrastructure of the country concerned with that of the EU. Mutual recognition agreements define the conditions under which a party (third country) accepts the results of the conformity assessment (e.g.B.
tests or certifications) carried out by conformity assessment bodies designated by the other Party (the EU) in order to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of The First Party (third countries) and vice versa. The exception is the MRA for medicines with the EU. This agreement greatly facilitates trade and is highly valued by exporters, importers and regulators….
